Surrendering a Pet to HAWS

At HAWS, we understand there are many circumstances that may lead to needing to surrender a pet. Our team knows that this is a difficult and stressful decision to make, and we are here to discuss your situation.

  • HAWS is contracted to assist most cities and towns in Waukesha County.
  • If you reside out of Waukesha County please start with your local humane society.

HAWS Surrender procedure:

  • We schedule all intakes by appointment. Call us at 262-542-8851 x0 to discuss the surrender.
  • Same day appointments are often available.
  • Please be prepared to discuss any medical or behavioral concerns for the safety of our staff and the pet.
  • Please have any veterinary information available and bring documents along to your appointment.
  • Fill out a surrender profile AFTER setting up an appointment.
  • At the time of surrender, HAWS will ask for a donation to cover the cost of the pet’s care while at HAWS. You will not be turned away if you are unable to make a donation.
  • A government issued ID is required for all appointments.
  • Owners must be 18 years old to surrender an animal.
  • Written and verbal consent is required from the legal owner (prior to the pet’s intake) if someone other than the legal owner is bringing the pet to HAWS.
